Twin servers pack more computing and storage into less space than any other server configuration except perhaps blade servers. Available with Asus, Supermicro or Tyan motherboards and as 1U twin servers or 2U double twin servers, you cab basically have two or four separate servers in a single 1U or 2U chassis. CCSI offers twin servers with not only hot swappable hard drives but also hot swappable nodes, providing maintenance convenience rivaling blade servers but at a lower cost per node. Twin Servers, unlike blade servers have independent nodes so there is no direct connection or shared bus between the nodes in twin servers. This fact makes Twin Serves better suited for HPC and less suitable for thin client servers but than are blade servers. Twin servers are ideal for boosting computer performance in existing environments rack space is limited. In addition to space savings, twin servers are also very cost effective because they spread the expense of one chassis and power supply over two or four servers. Energy consumption is minimized vs. stand alone servers by use of very high efficiency power supplies and low wattage CPUs in twin servers. Twin Servers are available with either 4x2.5” or 3x3.5” hard drives per node. With current generation hard drives of 650MB for 2.5” drives and 2TB in 3.5” drives, these very space efficient servers still offer ample disk storage capacity for many server applications. For those with low network latency requirements as in HPC clusters, Twin servers are available with either dual data rate Infiniband built into each node or quad data rate Infiniband built into each node. Twin servers are available with dual quad core socket 1366 Intel Xeon™ processors or dual six core AMD Opteron™ processors. Twin server nodes can but need not be configured identically within the same chassis, depending on your needs. For example, you could have a 36 core compute cluster utilizing 3 dual processor six-core with a single disk per compute node cluster and a dedicated dual processor, dual core head node with 3 or 4 hard drives for data storage powered by a redundant power supply all in 2U of rack space! If one of the Twin Server to the left does not meet your needs, contact CCSI for a custom built Twin Server that does.
